I tried to change something and this post took off and disappeared on me....I found it and posted what I had already written - I couldn't fix it, so I am starting where I left off...
Robbie then took us over to where the cannons were and gave us a lesson on them...the British had 244 cannons and the American/French had about 130 cannons...the diff. was the Americans had bigger and more powerful guns so the damage was bigger...helped to win the battle....
So much more to this story....about the tactics used,etc...and other things that came into play...British did not expect to find a French fleet of ships at the entrance of the York River when they came to try and help Cornwallis...and the French ended up defeating the British - they took their ships that were left and went back to New York... This all took place in the Fall of 1781...so much more information...just too much to tell, but interesting history....and Yorktown is where Cornwallis surrendered to Washington...only according to a movie we saw, Cornwallis was to ill to do the honor of surrender, so his second in Command did it...now I am confused and don't know who did what...so I will have to find out later....In Wash. DC, there is a huge painting on the wall of the Capitol of Washington on his horse and Cornwallis surrendering to him...so there you go....I don't know.
Anyhow, after that, we took a trolley ride into town and ate lunch at the High Tides Restaurnat...nice lunch...then walked out and about and then caught the trolley back to the visitor's center where we called Dan to come pick us up after we walked thru the small museum there...
It was a good day.
3:15 PM back to the boat and trying to upload pics again....got some done....
Ken went over to Activity Room to catch a little t.v.
6:30 PM I walked over to see if he wanted supper....we went back to the boat and ate sandwiches....
All in all, a very nice day and didn't rain until just a while ago and just for a few minutes...
We hope to go to Williamsburg tomorrow...back to uploading pics....send some out soon....
