8:30 AM...Ken left the dock and headed to the fuel dock...not an easy place to get into...I stayed on the dock and walked over to other one to help him come in...
He backs the Gypsy Wind up towards the dock, the current is taking the boat away from the dock, he quickly throws me the stern line, only it didn't get to me and it came off the cleat and oops, gone...hit the water and sunk...so he takes the boat back out into the creek and backs up again..this time I caught the line, but the boat hit hard and I couldn't hold it and almost almost knocked the dinghy motor offf it's mount....this is not a good way to start the day...finally get her tied down...then we wait and wait for someone to help....a little after 9 am, Ken goes to the office to see if someone can help us....finally got finished and head out...It's now 9:30 and we have at least 65 miles to go...gonna be a long day...just want to get to our destination before dark.....
Tom Bishop (owner/capt.) of Tall Blonde coming up behind us about 5 or 6 miles out...he called on the radio...I told him to come in a little closer, I wanted to get a picture...he did and I did and then Alana took a picture of us...told them we would try to hook up in Wash..later...he acknowledged..and away they went....we went under the Rte 301 Bridge (Harry Nice Bridge) and then about 6 or 7 miles up the Potomac, we started seeing all these floaties....big patches of weeds with twigs, junk on them...logs, all sorts of trash...had to weave and dodge this mess for several hours....every time we came to a creek entrance....when Irene and Lee hit, the flood waters carried all this junk into the Potomac, so now we are dealing with it....really bad stuff... then just before we hit this mine field of trash, I spotted something coming at us, couldn't figure out what it was..it sparkled in the sunlight...so as it got closer we could see. It was a cluster of about 10 helium red/white/blue -stars/stripes balloons and we thought someone must have put them in the water as a tribute to the fallen on 9/11...10th anniversary... our story and we are sticking to it....
2:30 PM- been out 5 hrs...about half way there....all of a sudden say a Eagle flew by and of course no camera ready for pics...dang it! so cool though!
It is almost 7 PM and we are only about 6 miles away from the marina....trying our best to get there before dark...hard to see markers/buoy's in the dark...we go under a bridge and can almost see our turn off....sun just went down...think we can make it.
So now we are approaching the marina...looking for Capital Yacht Club...hollered to a gal on the dock- where is Capital...she said next marina...great....so then we find D dock...go around the corner...3rd slip in and go to back in and the people in the boat next to our slip have a pool in the water by their boat...no one there in the boat...we can't back in , so Ken backs the boat up...so we can drive in and he has to move the dinghy around....holy cow...so this guy comes over to help us dock...no problem...got in and tied up...7:45 PM long stinkin day 10 hrs and 71 miles.....but life is still good and we are happy to be settled in....can't get off the dock...gate locked/security...get off tomorrow and check in...
we get the power on and the fans running, then eat soup/salad and prepare for bed - been a long long ride....hot sun....tired....
Still can't get over the trash in the River...nasty stuff....I do have pics...
more to come....good nite sweet dreams......
